Passports and visas
- British nationals don’t need a visa to travel to Spain. Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required. Remember your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) but also take out travel insurance, even if you’re only going for one night - it could save you a lot of money if you get into difficulties
- you must provide ID (your passport) if requested by a police officer. The police have the right to hold you at a police station until your identity is confirmed
- always take care of your passport, as obtaining a replacement is costly and time-consuming, therefore it is imperative that you look after your passport well
Getting to the stadium
Estadio de Balaídos is located in the south-west of the city of Vigo about 3 kilometres from its historic city centre and a little more from the train station.
If arriving by train at the RENFE train station, you can reach the stadium with bus number 23. Take the bus from Calle de Pizarro, a few blocks south of the station. Get off at the Avenida Fragosa, from where it is a few minutes walking to the stadium. The journey takes a little over 10 minutes. Buses run about twice an hour.
An alternative is line 11, which you can take from the Rua de Urzáiz. Line 11 also passes right through the historic centre, for example on the Rua de Colón. Get off at the Avenida Florida after an approximate 15-minute journey. It is a few minutes walking from there.
From the main bus station (in the east of the city) first go to Plaza de Madrid (15 minutes walking, or bus U2 or 12) and then take bus 23 to the stadium. Fans who wish to be escorted by the Spanish Police from the town centre to the stadium should meet at Plaza de la Constitución 3 hours before the game. The walk to the stadium from the Plaza will take approximately 45 minutes.
At the match
Manchester United fans with general tickets are located in the corner of the Rio stand, entry through gate 20. Category 1 ticket holders enter via Gate 9 in the main stand along with home supporters and are seated in the lower tier. Disabled supporters will be located on a platform in the lower Rio tier away sector. Access will be via Gate 18 where there is a ramp
access to the stadium will be slow. There will be ticket checks at various check points before getting to the stadium including body searches and after getting through the turnstiles. To avoid a last minute bottleneck you should get to the stadium early - doors will be open for visiting supporters 2 hours before kickoff
anyone who is obviously drunk or bearing racist insignia will not be allowed into the stadium. Also, any banners bearing political slogans will not be permitted inside the stadium
flares, fireworks, alcohol, cans, glass, bottle tops or containers over 1/2 litre are not allowed in the stadium. Soft drinks and food are available inside the stadium
drinking in the streets in some areas of Spain is illegal, and you can be arrested for doing so
visiting supporters may be kept behind for around 15-20 minutes after the match to allow the home fans to disperse
as in any other city beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers at airports, railway stations, around the town centre and when using public transport. Only carry what you need and leave spare cash and valuables in hotel safety deposits
when visiting the centre of town, pay particular care with your belongings and be aware of your surroundings
