DfT: compliance with the Equality Duty

Explains the work being done by Department for Transport to comply with the Equality Duty.

The Equality Act 2010 contains a new integrated public sector Equality Duty, which came into force on 5 April 2011. It requires public bodies to have due regard to:

  • eliminating unlawful discrimination
  • advancing equality of opportunity
  • fostering good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don’t

with the aim of making society fairer.

These documents are used by the department to inform our decision making. They explain the work being done to comply with the general Equality Duty. They include research being undertaken by the department and external bodies.
