Strikes in Greece - advice for travellers

Major pre-planned industrial action will affect transport in Greece from 21 - 28 February.

Services expected to be affected include public transport in Athens and port services. There is also the possibility of airport delays on 23 February.

21 February

Buses in the Athens region will not operate from 11:00-16:30 and trolley buses will not operate from 11:00-16:00.

22 February

Trolley buses in the Athens region will not operate from 11:00-16:00 and the Athens Metro will not operate from 12:00-16:00.

23 February

Public and private sector trade unions are participating in a 24 hour strike. Disruptions to public transport are expected as follows:

  • buses in the Athens region will not operate for 24 hours
  • port services will be disrupted for 24 hours
  • Athens Metro will not operate from 05:30-09:00 or from 17:00-12:00 (midnight). It is expected to operate as normal from 09:00-17:00
  • Possible industrial action at Greek airports may lead to delays. Passengers are advised to contact the airline they are travelling with for more information.

25 February

Buses in the Athens region will not operate from 11:00-16:30.

28 February

Buses, trolley buses and the Athens Metro will not operate for 24 hours. The suburban railway is expected to operate as normal.
