The publication scheme describes the types of information we publish and explains how to access it.


Publication scheme

The Freedom of Information Act requires us to have a publication scheme to tell members of the public how to find information we make available. The Environmental Information Regulations require us to make environmental information available.

Information about our accounts, management and governance can be found in our annual reports and accounts.

We follow the Information Commissioner’s model publication scheme (PDF, 138 KB, 9 pages).

Capita maintains a website with the Environment Agency pension fund. It provides information for members on our active and closed funds, digital versions of member publications and information for non-members.

How to find the information

We publish information on the environment and maintain public registers of environmental information.

Documents can be found using the publication catalogue search. You can also check the National Archives for older information.

You may wish to make a request to us under the Freedom Of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) or the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR).

Our policies and procedures

Written protocols, responsibilities and internal procedures are available on request.

Lists and registers

We are legally required to hold information in registers and other lists relating to the functions of the authority.

Some information can be found by accessing the public registers.

These maps are in paper form and can be viewed at your local Environment Agency office. Contact the Environment Agency’s general enquiries team to find out where your local office is and to make an appointment to visit

  • maps of sensitive areas and high natural dispersion areas

Using our information

Information is available free-of-charge, unless it is for commercial use, or if you need multiple hard copies. Some of our information is already licensed for re-use. Find out more about re-using our data.
