This authorisation came into effect on 29 January 2016 and remains valid until 31 January 2017 unless otherwise revoked.
This authorisation allows deviations from the European requirements for transporting dangerous goods within Great Britain. It permits the carriage of waste asbestos (UN 2212 and UN 2590 substances) when special provision 168 cannot be utilised. This is relevant in situations where the waste is not bonded or a manufactured article and UN-approved packaging is not available.
Background to carriage of dangerous goods authorisations
The Secretary of State for Transport for transport, can issue written authorisations that allow for deviations from the requirements of European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road and Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail. These authorisations carry conditions and time limits, and apply to carriage within Great Britain only. The authorisations can be withdrawn by the competent authority at any time by means of a written notice.
