This authorisation comes into effect immediately for contract customers and on 1 July 2013 for social customers and remains valid unless otherwise revoked.
This authorisation allows deviations from the European requirements for transporting dangerous goods within Great Britain. It allows end-to-end postal operators to carry small quantities of certain dangerous goods without the application of the full provision of the dangerous goods regulations.
Background to carriage of dangerous goods authorisations
The Secretary of State for Transport for transport, can issue written authorisations that allow for deviations from the requirements of European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road and Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail. These authorisations carry conditions and time limits, and apply to carriage within Great Britain only. The authorisations can be withdrawn by the competent authority at any time by means of a written notice.
