This authorisation comes into effect on 10 May 2004 and remains valid until 9 May 2019 unless otherwise revoked.
This authorisation allows deviations from the European requirements for transporting dangerous goods within Great Britain. It permits a transitional period for industry to adapt to new requirements relating to the use of bowsers when carrying dangerous goods.
Background to carriage of dangerous goods authorisations
The Secretary of State for Transport for transport, can issue written authorisations that allow for deviations from the requirements of European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road and Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail. These authorisations carry conditions and time limits, and apply to carriage within Great Britain only. The authorisations can be withdrawn by the competent authority at any time by means of a written notice.
