HS2 Phase 2b: Crewe to Manchester and the West Midlands to Leeds
Updated information on proposals for the HS2 route from Crewe to Manchester and West Midlands to Leeds.
The UK Government has published an Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands. It looks at how to deliver HS2 Phase 2b, Northern Powerhouse Rail, Midlands Rail Hub and other rail programmes better and more effectively.
HS2 Phase Two is being delivered in 2 stages:
- HS2 Phase 2a (West Midlands to Crewe)
- HS2 Phase 2b (Crewe to Manchester, and the West Midlands to Leeds)
In November 2016, the Secretary of State confirmed part of the Phase 2b route, whilst also announcing a consultation on seven route refinement areas. On 17 July 2017, the Secretary of State for Transport announced his decisions on these refinements. Information on this page relates to the route as confirmed on 17 July. On the 10 October 2018 the Secretary of State announced a consultation on the working draft Environmental Statement for Phase 2b, which is a key part of preparing the future hybrid Bill to seek powers for its construction. The consultation will run for 10 weeks.
The working draft Environmental Statement gives those affected the chance to review and comment on initial assessments of the environmental impacts from HS2 Phase 2b.
