Consultation description

Consultation description

This consultation is on 7 proposed changes to the HS2 route, from Crewe to Manchester and West Midlands to Leeds. This section of the route is referred to as ‘Phase 2b’.

The government has confirmed the majority of the Phase 2b route. The route includes some changes to what we consulted on in 2013. A significant proportion of these changes are within the overall corridor presented in 2013, or have been adopted in direct response to the 2013 route consultation. However, in seven locations where more substantial changes are proposed, the Secretary of State has decided to consult.

After considering the outcome of this consultation, the Secretary of State will make a decision on whether to include the seven proposed changes within his preferred route for the Phase 2b hybrid Bill.

The consultation document sets out the options examined and the Secretary of State’s proposed refinements. The seven proposed route refinements are:

  1. Relocating the western leg Rolling Stock Depot
  2. Route between Middlewich and Pickmere
  3. Manchester Piccadilly approach
  4. Route around Measham, Leicestershire
  5. Route along A42 around East Midlands Airport
  6. East Midlands Hub approach (Long Eaton)
  7. Derbyshire to West Yorkshire (M18 / Eastern route)
