Find out what to do if you’ve lost your:

  • user ID
  • password
  • activation code

You can use GOV.UK Verify to prove your identity and complete Self Assessment as an individual online if you do not want to wait for replacement details to be sent to you.

It will take about 10 minutes to verify your identity.

  • problems submitting forms
  • error messages in your online account or on HMRC forms
  • downloading and using HMRC free software and tools

Have your HMRC Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number with you when you call.
