This quarterly survey collects data on public awareness, behaviours and attitudes relating to the department’s policy areas.

Following disruptions to data collection due to Covid-19, the time series has been restarted from Autumn 2021 with a new methodology using address-based online surveying. See ‘BEIS Public Attitudes Tracker: Developments Summer 2021’ for more details.

BEIS Public Attitudes Tracker Latest Results

In response to user feedback, the results from Autumn 2021 onwards are now divided into topic areas. This link will take you to the latest reports on each of these topics. Each report will be updated when more results are published on each topic.

BEIS Public Attitudes Tracker surveys

In August 2018 BEIS updated the survey:

  • expanding the topics to cover the full remit of the department’s priorities including consumer markets and employment rights
  • increasing the sample size from approximately 2,000 to 4,000 users to allow a more meaningful breakdown of data
  • producing more engaging outputs

Due to the impacts of COVID-19, data from Wave 34 to Wave 37 was collected via an online panel. For earlier waves, data was collected through face-to-face in-home interviews. Data for Autumn 2021 onwards is collected using address-based online surveying (ABOS).

BEIS Public Attitudes Tracker: energy and climate change

On 14 July 2016, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) merged with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), to form the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS): the survey remained focused on attitudes to energy and climate change.

DECC Public Attitudes Tracker: energy and climate change

In March 2012 the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) launched a tracking survey to understand and monitor public attitudes to the department’s main business priorities.
