Details

The Winter 2022 wave of the PAT was commissioned by BEIS. Fieldwork took place between 17 November to 19 December 2022 using a push-to-web methodology, covering a sample of 3,571 individuals in the UK.

The methodology, which was introduced in Autumn 2021, uses random probability sampling. Respondents are invited to participate through letters sent out to addresses randomly selected from the postcode address file (PAF). They can complete the survey online or on paper.

These results should not be compared with the face-to-face results or online panel results from previous waves due to selection and measurement effects. A summary of the methodology is provided in the Technical Overview report. A more detailed description of the survey methodology used since Autumn 2021 together with core survey metrics for Autumn 2021 to Summer 2022 is given in the Technical Report .

The results have been split into topic-based reports. These reports also include the results from previous waves from Autumn 2021 onwards and make comparisons with these results where possible. Some topic reports were not updated in this wave as questions on these topics were not asked. The latest results on Worker’s Rights can be found in the Autumn 2022 wave and those on Energy Bills and Tariffs, Artificial Intelligence, and Businesses and Trade can be found in the Summer 2022 wave.

From Summer 2022 onwards we are no longer publishing the PAT datasets but more detailed versions will be available via the Secure Research Service (SRS). This change was proposed when the results from Spring 2022 were published and no comments were received from users. Instead, we are now publishing time series and crosstabulations by sex, age, education and region for selected questions.

We are always interested in feedback on the Public Attitudes Tracker. If you have any comments or questions on this publication, please contact us at BEISPAT@beis.gov.uk.
