Sending your documents by post

We’re closely following government guidance for working safely during coronavirus and have reduced the number of colleagues in our offices. This has led to delays in processing correspondence, documents and paper forms.

Do not send us paper documents or correspondence unless it’s absolutely necessary.

To make sure your information is processed on time, use our online services to:

Anyone filing documents at Companies House should understand their legal responsibilities and duties of a company director.

Delivering accounts

Accounts must be delivered to Companies House by the deadline date. If your accounts are filed late, your company will get a late filing penalty.

You can search for your company’s record to see your filing deadline dates and check that your company’s details are up to date.

We cannot accept delays in transit as a reason to waive a penalty.

Including the correct information

You must give your company name in full on all documents - abbreviations in company names are not allowed.

Example ‘A Demo Company Limited’ cannot abbreviate to ‘A Demo Co Ltd’.

All documents must be delivered to Companies House in an acceptable format or they will be returned to the company (or presenter).

See our Registrar’s rules and powers guidance.

Using a postal delivery service

If you’re using a postal delivery service, you should:

  • be aware that postal and other delivery services may be subject to loss or delay
  • note any industrial disputes or other factors (like coronavirus restrictions) which may make it difficult for a carrier to deliver on time
  • use a guaranteed delivery service when posting close to a deadline

We will acknowledge receipt of documents if you provide a stamped addressed envelope and a copy of your covering letter. This only confirms we’ve received your document - not that it has been registered.

Some postal services may be disrupted during the coronavirus outbreak.

Where to send your documents

Companies registered in England and Wales must send their documents to our Cardiff office.

Companies registered in Scotland must send their documents to our Edinburgh office.

Companies registered in Northern Ireland must send their documents to our Belfast office.
