Sending your documents by post

Anyone filing documents at Companies House should understand their legal responsibilities.

It’s taking longer than usual to deliver and process paper documents because of coronavirus.

Use our online services to help us process your information as quickly as possible. You can:

Delivering accounts

Accounts must be delivered to Companies House by the deadline date. If your accounts are filed late, your company will be issued a late filing penalty.

You can search for your company’s record to see your filing deadline dates and check that your company’s details are up to date.

We cannot accept delays in transit as a reason to waive a penalty.

Including the correct information

You must give your company name in full on all documents - abbreviations in company names are not acceptable.

Example ‘A Demo Company Limited’ cannot abbreviate to ‘A Demo Co Ltd’.

All documents must be delivered to Companies House in an acceptable format or they will be returned to the presenter or the company for amendment.

Using a postal delivery service

If you’re using a postal delivery service, you should:

  • be aware that postal and other delivery services may be subject to loss or delay
  • note any industrial disputes or other factors which may make it difficult for a carrier to deliver on time
  • use a guaranteed delivery service when posting close to a deadline

We will acknowledge receipt of documents if you provide a stamped addressed envelope and a copy of your covering letter. This only confirms we’ve received your document - not that it has been registered.

Where to send your documents

Companies registered in England and Wales must send their documents to our Cardiff office.

Companies registered in Scotland must send their documents to our Edinburgh office.

Companies registered in Northern Ireland must send their documents to our Belfast office.
