Prove pre-settled status if you have another UK immigration status
Prove to others you still have pre-settled status, if you later got another type of permission to enter or stay in the UK.
Who still has pre-settled status
You still have pre-settled status if you:
- hold pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme for one of the eligible reasons
- then got another type of permission to enter or stay in the UK
The eligible reasons are:
- you are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
- you are the family member of someone from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
- you have a ‘retained right of residence’ - meaning you used to have a family member from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein who was living in the UK by 31 December 2020
How to prove you have pre-settled status
Your eVisa can only show the permission to enter or stay in the UK you got most recently. View your eVisa and get a share code to prove this permission to enter or stay in the UK.
How you prove you still have pre-settled status depends on whether you still have your other type of permission to enter or stay in the UK.
If you still have your other type of permission to enter or stay in the UK
An employer can use the employer checking service to confirm you have pre-settled status.
A landlord can use the landlord checking service to confirm you have pre-settled status.
Other organisations can contact the Home Office through their usual process for checking immigration status, to confirm you have pre-settled status. This includes:
- government departments
- local councils
- educational institutions
If you no longer have your other type of permission to enter or stay in the UK
If you continue to hold your pre-settled status, contact UK Visas and Immigration to ask for it to be added to your eVisa.
If you were refused settlement as a victim of domestic violence or abuse
Your pre-settled status will be added back to your eVisa if:
- you were granted temporary permission to stay under the migrant victims of domestic abuse concession
- then you were refused settlement as a victim of domestic violence or abuse
You can also contact UK Visas and Immigration to ask for your pre-settled status to be added back to your eVisa.
If you were refused settlement as a victim of domestic violence or abuse and you did not first apply for the migrant victims of domestic abuse concession, your pre-settled status will continue to show on your eVisa.
Converting pre-settled status to settled status
You can apply for settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme as soon as you are eligible.
If you get settled status, this will replace any other permission you have to enter or stay in the UK.
You will not be automatically moved from pre-settled status to settled status.
