What happens next?

Find out what happens next with your application

After we have received your application we will check that:

  • you meet the eligibility requirements
  • all the necessary details have been given in your application form and annexes
  • all of your maps have been completed.

If your application fails any of the above checks, we will contact you to explain what’s wrong and how you can correct it (if relevant).

CS Higher Tier is competitive, which means that not everyone who applies will be successful. We use a scoring process based on environmental benefits to select successful applicants.

If your application has been successful

A Natural England or Forestry Commission adviser (depending on the application type) will contact you and invite you to work towards a final application. This will involve a site visit and possibly changes to your application based on the adviser’s recommendations.

If your application has not been successful

You can appeal. For more information read the ‘Disputes, appeals and complaints’ section in the Higher Tier manual for 2021.
