Academies capital funding and support

Information about capital funding programmes and support for single and multi-academy trusts.

Devolved Formula Capital (DFC)

DFC provides academy trusts with capital funding to address their own priorities. DFC funding can be used for improvements to buildings and other facilities, including ICT, or capital repairs/refurbishment and minor works. EFA capital allocations: 2015 to 2018 are also published.

Condition Improvement Fund (CIF)

The Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), which replaces the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund (ACMF) and the Building Condition Improvement Fund (BCIF), supports projects address condition issues and schools and colleges that need to expand their existing provision. Only smaller open academies, schools with academy orders signed on or before 1 November 2014 and sixth-form colleges can apply.

Capital maintenance funding and support for multi-academy trusts (MATs)

Capital funding for multi-academy trusts (MATs with at least 5 academies and more than 3,000 pupils is through a formulaic allocation for MATs to deploy strategically across their estate to address their priority maintenance and expansion needs.

MAT capital funding network

A MAT capital funding network was set up in 2013 by trusts receiving a formulaic allocation of capital maintenance funding from EFA. The network is self-supporting and is setting up its own web-based resources. There will be link from this page as soon as it is available.

Academies property transactions

EFA has also published a series of property information notes (PINs) to help academy trusts that are seeking consent for property transactions.
