These documents provide detail on the government’s decision about HS2 (Phase One).

HS2 is the most significant transport infrastructure project in the UK since the motorways were built in the 1950s and 1960s. It will provide a high speed rail route between London and Birmingham (Phase One) and to Manchester and Leeds (Phase Two).

Construction along the Phase One line is due to start in 2017 and be completed by 2025. The first train services will run between London and Birmingham from 2026.

For the latest on plans to extend the route from the West Midlands to Manchester and Leeds see the HS2 Phase Two initial preferences.
