Mefloquine (Lariam) prescribing in the UK armed forces statistics: index

Statistics on mefloquine prescribing in the UK armed forces.

This statistical bulletin has been developed in response to the House of Commons Defence Committee (HCDC) inquiry into mefloquine prescribing in the UK armed forces. It presents a summary of mefloquine prescribing following the introduction of a new policy in September 2016.

The Official Statistic ‘Mefloquine (Lariam) prescribing in the UK armed forces’ due to be released on Thursday 17 May 2018 will include a revised methodology for counting the overall number of antimalarial prescriptions. Defence Statistics are now able to better identify which doxycycline prescriptions were for antimalarial use (rather than as an antibiotic) and only these have been included in the overall number of antimalarial prescriptions providing a more accurate number.
