Other ways to pay your Self Assessment bill online

You can pay using:

Single or composite CHAPS payments

You can make a single or composite CHAPS payment for more than one Self Assessment reference (called a ‘multiple’ or ‘composite’ payment).

If HMRC needs to contact you about anything confidential they’ll reply by phone or post.

You cannot pay your bill using this number. If you need help submitting your payment you can call us.

You’ll need your Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) when you call.

Post

If you cannot pay online you can post a cheque with your Self Assessment payment slip.

Make your cheque payable to ‘HM Revenue and Customs only’.

Write your 11-character payment reference on the back of the cheque. This is your 10-digit Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) followed by the letter ‘K’.

You can find your UTR:

If HMRC sent you a payslip, include it with your cheque. Do not fold the payslip or cheque or fasten them together.

Your payment may be delayed if you do not fill in your cheque correctly.

You can include a letter with your payment to ask HMRC for a receipt.

You do not need to include a street name, city name or PO box when writing to this address.
