Apply to the EU Settlement Scheme

The scheme will open fully by 30 March 2019. The test phase of the scheme is open now, but you must meet all the requirements to apply.

You might also choose when to apply depending on your circumstances.

The deadline for applying will be 30 June 2021, or 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

Apply now

You can only apply in the test phase if you’re either:

  • a passport holder from the EU
  • a family member of someone from the EU, and you have a residence card with a biometric chip and ‘EU right to reside’ on the back

You’ll also need access to an Android phone to apply in the test phase.

Apply when the scheme opens fully

You do not need access to an Android phone to apply when the scheme opens fully - you can send your identity document by post.

You’ll be able to complete the application form online using any device when the scheme opens fully (for example, an iPhone or laptop).

You can also use a document other than a passport or biometric residence card to prove your identity.

Fees

On 21 January the Prime Minister announced that there will be no fee when the scheme opens fully on 30 March 2019. Anyone who has applied already, or who applies and pays a fee during the test phases, will have their fee refunded. Details of the refunds process will be published shortly.

If you want to apply now, the fee (which will be refunded) is:

  • £65 if you’re 16 or over
  • £32.50 if you’re under 16

It’ll be free to apply if you already have a valid ‘UK permanent residence document’ or you already have indefinite leave to remain in or enter the UK.
