What is the Mutuals Mentoring Scheme?

We know that the transition from public sector ownership to independent organisation is a challenging one, and that new leaders need support to make it a success. The DCMS Mutuals Team has recruited experienced leaders and advisors from across the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to act as mentors. All mentors run businesses themselves so are very much aware of the day-to-day challenges involved. You will be matched, as closely as possible, with a mentor based on your personal development needs, organisational needs, service area and location who can offer practical advice on how to tackle and overcome some of the challenges faced by Public Service Mutuals.

How do I apply?

The programme is primarily aimed at leaders who are setting up a new mutual, or in their first year of operation, and we are now accepting applications on a rolling basis. We have a finite number of mentors available, and applicants will be expected to describe the type of support needed, the impact they expect a mentor will have on their personal development and therefore the organisation they lead. The number of sessions will vary according to needs, but we expect approximately 8 to 10 sessions per person over a 6 to 9 month period.
