Apply for Marriage Allowance by post

Use form MATCF to apply for Marriage Allowance to transfer 10% of your Personal Allowance to your husband, wife or civil partner.

You must use form MATCF to apply for Marriage Allowance by post. Any other postal claims will not be accepted.

You and your husband, wife or civil partner can use this form to apply for Marriage Allowance. This lets one of you transfer 10% of your Personal Allowance to the other, who can then claim the value of that allowance.

You can backdate your claim to 6 April 2022 (the 2022 to 2023 tax year) for any years you were eligible for Marriage Allowance using form MATCF.

If your partner has since died, you can backdate your claim by calling the Income Tax helpline.

If you’re not backdating your claim, the quickest way to apply for Marriage Allowance is online.

If you’re applying on behalf of someone else

If you’re making a claim for someone else, charging a fee for this and want the repayment to be paid to you, find out what you will need to do to receive Income Tax or PAYE repayments on behalf of others.
