About this report
UKHSA maintains an enhanced reporting system for Gram-negative, MRSA, and MSSA bacteraemia and C. difficile infections (CDI). NHS acute trusts in England are mandated to report cases of E. coli, Klebsiella spp., P. aeruginosa, MRSA and MSSA bacteraemia and CDI into this system. This report outlines the latest trends and developments in these infections. It aims to provide valuable insights into the incidence, prevalence and future work related to these infections, contributing to the ongoing efforts to enhance patient safety in healthcare settings.

The following financial year data is included in the latest annual epidemiological commentary for Escherichia coli (E. coli), Klebsiella species (Klebsiella spp.), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa), meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), meticillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) bacteraemia, and Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).
- E. coli bacteraemia: April 2012 to March 2026
- Klebsiella spp. bacteraemia: April 2017 to March 2026
- P. aeruginosa bacteraemia: April 2017 to March 2026
- MRSA bacteraemia: April 2007 to March 2026
- MSSA bacteraemia: April 2011 to March 2026
- C. difficile infection: April 2007 to March 2026
Annual trust and sub-integrated care board tables
The annual trust and sub-integrated care board tables are now located in the “Annual counts and rates by acute trust and sub-integrated care board location for Gram-negative, MRSA and MSSA bacteraemia and C. difficile infections data, up to and including financial year 2025 to 2026” ODS data file attached to this report. Tables for each data collection have been combined into one spreadsheet. This change was intended to make trust and sub-integrated care board-level data more easily accessible alongside the annual epidemiological commentary. Previous tables are located with previous versions of the annual epidemiological commentary.
