Details

Unpaid carers look after someone they know who needs support. This could be someone in their family, a friend or a neighbour. They do not get paid to do this.

Unpaid carers can be adults, children or young people. It can be hard for them to get the support they need. Caring can also make it hard for them to do other things, like going to school or work.

This action plan explains what the government will do to make life better for unpaid carers. It focuses on 3 things:

  • recognise - making sure that people know who carers are
  • refer - making sure that carers can get the right support when they need it
  • reach - supporting carers to have a good life and do the things they want

This plan is about unpaid carers in England. The parts about rights at work are also for unpaid carers in Scotland and Wales.
