Details

This interim report has been undertaken by Sir Peter Hendy as part of the union connectivity review. It:

  • considers the current picture of transport connectivity within the UK
  • provides a summary of feedback received from stakeholders
  • outlines Sir Peter’s assessment methodology, which will be used to develop his final recommendations

The report provides a breakdown of current road, rail, air and sea connectivity within the UK, and sets out the economic context for better connectivity. It outlines a number of existing transport projects that, according to the evidence submitted so far, should be considered for future investment, as well as the potential development of a new UK strategic transport network. Finally, the report also assesses the current environmental impact of transport within the UK.

The final report, submitted to the government in 2021, makes a series of recommendations for future investment in transport between the nations of the UK.
