The Infrastructure Act 2015 provides for the transfer of responsibility for Local Land Charges (LLC) from local authorities to HM Land Registry.
Under these provisions, we will provide a central, digital service for LLC by consolidating local authority registers into a single register. This involves digitising more than 20 million records currently held in a range of formats so that the whole register will be accessible online.
As implementation will require secondary legislation, HM Land Registry launched a public consultation on the draft Local Land Charges Rules 2017, which ran until 11 July 2016.
