Note on monthly insolvency statistics

The Insolvency Service currently releases monthly company and individual insolvency statistics for England & Wales and Northern Ireland, and monthly company statistics for Scotland. These Monthly Insolvency Statistics are published two weeks in arrears of month end, to provide more up to date information on insolvency volumes.

Following a consultation in 2023, the Insolvency Service will merge the monthly and quarterly statistics while maintaining monthly frequency. The first release in the new format will be published on 26 April 2024. It will be available on this page.

Company Insolvency Statistics Releases

This statistics collection contains the Insolvency Service’s statistical releases on company insolvency (companies who are unable to pay debts and enter liquidation; or enter administration or other company rescue process).

This page includes quarterly statistical releases on company insolvencies primarily in England and Wales with information presented separately for Scotland and Northern Ireland due to difference in legislation and policy. These are designated as National Statistics. Prior to 2019 this publication was combined with Individual Insolvency Statistics so these older releases are also included in this collection page.

A one-off publication on Corporate Insolvencies by Size, Age and Location is also included on this page. This experimental Official Statistics release broke down enterprise insolvencies by turnover, number of employees, age and region. This publication is not consistent with the Company Insolvency Statistics release as it is on an enterprise and not a company basis. There are currently no plans to publish an updated version of this.
