Report benefit fraud
Report someone you think is committing benefit fraud.
This page is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).
Give as much information as you can about the person you’re reporting. This could include:
- their name
- their address
- the type of fraud you think they’re committing
All reports are anonymous - you do not have to give your name or contact details.
Only report someone once.
For your own safety, you should not try to find out more or let anyone know you’re making a report.
Reporting other types of fraud or crime
There’s a different way to report:
- fraud of the War Pension Scheme or Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
- fraud against benefits and payments made by Social Security Scotland
- tax fraud
- a crime
- antisocial behaviour
- immigration or border crime
- other types of fraud, such as identity theft (to Report Fraud)
- threats to national security
If you’re in danger or it’s an emergency, dial 999 and ask for the police.
What happens after you report benefit fraud
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will look at the information you give. It might take some time to investigate your report.
They will not be able to tell you the outcome of their investigation.
DWP will only take action if they find the person has been committing benefit fraud. Action can include removing a person’s benefits, getting them to repay money and taking them to court.
Sometimes no action is taken. The person may have declared a change in their circumstances or their benefit may not be affected by what you report.
