Apply for controlled atmosphere storage grants
Apply for a grant to install controlled atmosphere storage for fruit and vegetables, under the Countryside Productivity Scheme.
Arable or horticultural farmers can apply to RPA for a grant to install controlled atmosphere storage.
Applicants must be a farming business. Separate business entities whose business activity is purely for the storage and/or processing of agricultural produce are not eligible for this grant.
Controlled atmosphere storage can help to maintain the quality of produce in stores.
This grant is part of the Countryside Productivity Scheme.
How much funding is available
Applicants can apply for a grant worth up to 40% of the total eligible costs of the proposal. This grant is a large grant – applications must be for between £35,000 and £1,000,000.
What the grant will fund
Applicants can apply for funding to build new fruit and vegetable storage areas (not packing and grading equipment) which allow them to monitor and control the temperature and atmospheric gasses.
Any building which the applicant proposes to erect must have a rainwater harvesting system. Applicants can apply for funding for these costs.
Costs that are not eligible for funding
Grain stores are not eligible for funding.

Applicants need to:
- register with the Rural Payments online service (if they have not already done so)
- complete an outline application form
- send it to the RPA – read about how to send applications
If an outline application is successful, RPA will ask applicants to fill out a large grant full application form and send it to them, along with supporting evidence.
