Details

This report details the work the UK undertook in 2024 to implement the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (Voluntary Principles). The UK produces an annual report on its work as part of its membership of the Voluntary Principles Initiative.

The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights were unveiled 24 years ago by the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Robin Cook, and US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The United Kingdom, as chair of the Voluntary Principles Initiative in 2025, will continue to work with other governments, businesses, civil society, worker representatives and communities to protect human rights and prevent conflict. We welcome the opportunity to continue reporting on our work to promote and implement the Voluntary Principles.

The UK government is committed to supporting the growth, sustainability and impact of the Voluntary Principles Initiative. The Voluntary Principles is an important tool to help implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) alongside the UK National Action Plan.
