This report aims to develop an understanding of the roles and requirements of the radiological and civil nuclear safety regulatory bodies within the radiopharmaceutical supply chain.

The study was written by the key regulators:

  • Environment Agency (EA)
  • Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR)
  • Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  • Natural Resources Wales (NRW)
  • Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA)
  • Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA)

It was produced as part of the Medical Radionuclide Innovation Programme (MRIP) which concluded in March 2025.

It is specifically focussed on medical radioisotopes and is separate to the Nuclear Regulatory Review 2025 and subsequent government response which was published in March 2026.
