Details

In August and September 2009, an outbreak of E. coli O157 led to severe illness in a number of visitors to Godstone Farm in Surrey. The Health Protection Agency (HPA), now part of Public Health England, established an independent investigation of the outbreak, including:

  • the factors that contributed to it
  • how it was handled

The investigation’s report (The Griffin Report) made recommendations to a variety of organisations to reduce the risk of future farm-related E. coli O157 outbreaks.

In response to the report, the HPA set up a multi-agency committee to address the recommendations.
