Endangered species: apply for an import and export permit
Apply for a permit to import, export or re-export a CITES-listed specimen in or out of the UK.
Documents
Details
Use form FED0172 to apply for a permit to import, export or re-export a CITES listed specimen in or out of the UK. If you are importing into or exporting from Northern Ireland, you need to use the Northern Ireland form.
A specimen includes any living or dead plant or animal (or any of its parts) listed under Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) controls.
You only need the permit for a species listed under annex A or B of CITES.
Use the Species+ tool to search for an endangered species. Check which annex (A, B, C or D) it’s classified under.
Read the guidance before completing the form. This explains:
- what information you have to give
- the codes to use
- how to successfully complete the application
Send your application
If possible, send your application by email to CITESapplication@apha.gov.uk.
Please apply in advance to avoid delay – APHA is dealing with a high volume of applications.
If you cannot send your application by email, you can post forms to the APHA Centre for International Trade: Bristol. If you apply by post it may take longer.
See apply for CITES permits and certificates to move or trade endangered species for more information on CITES controls and species.
