Research on on-screen assessment
A series of research reports published by Ofqual exploring the opportunities, benefits, risks, and challenges of on-screen assessment.
A group of research reports published by Ofqual, exploring the opportunities, benefits, risks, and challenges of on-screen assessment. One is a report published in 2020, considering the barriers to greater adoption of online and on-screen assessment in high stakes, sessional qualifications taken at volume in English schools and colleges.
The collection also features 4 research studies, plus a summary of those studies, published in December 2025 alongside Ofqual’s consultation on regulating on-screen assessment in GCSEs, AS and A levels. The findings provide a comprehensive evidence base and have directly informed Ofqual’s proposed regulatory approach.
