Detailed information for Phase Two of HS2 from the West Midlands to Leeds and Manchester
Phase Two refers to the section of the HS2 route that will be constructed after construction of the Phase One HS2 route between London and the West Midlands have started.
This section of HS2 forms a ‘Y’ shape from the West Midlands up towards Manchester and the North West with a proposed station at Manchester Airport; and up towards Leeds and the North East with proposed stations in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.
You can view the latest maps and read more about the Phase Two proposed stations and depots in the sections below.
It is anticipated that Phase Two of HS2 will begin operating trains around 2033 as part of the integrated HS2 network and with the rest of the UK rail network. This date is dependent on receiving Royal Assent of the Phase Two hybrid Bill which is yet to be deposited in Parliament.
We will continue to review and refine our proposals for the Phase Two route to ensure they bring the best solution in terms of connectivity and economic growth. Any further announcements and decisions on the Phase Two route will be made in due course following ministerial review and approval.
