A written ministerial statement was made to Parliament. This set out that a statutory consultation on proposals for local government reorganisation in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton was published. No changes have been proposed for the Isle of Wight, an existing unitary council.

The Minister of State for Local Government and Homelessness also wrote to the leaders of councils in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton to thank them for their proposals and inform them of the consultation.

Gosport Borough Council and Isle of Wight council did not submit proposals for unitary local government and so the letter is not addressed to their leaders.
