On 29 October 2026, the Minister for Local Government, Devolution and Regional Growth wrote to council leaders in the 15 remaining areas awaiting minded-to decisions as part of the local government reorganisation review.

The letters cover:

  • 9 areas where decisions announced in July 2026 have now been withdrawn
  • 4 areas where decisions were withdrawn in September 2026 and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and West Sussex, where decisions have not yet been taken

No new minded-to decisions have been announced for these 15 areas. The letters provide an update on the next phase of the review.
