Registering for a business rates valuation account

Find out how to set up an account to view your business properties' valuation details, including the rateable value, and report any changes.

Applies to England and Wales

Set up an account

Use the online service to set up your business rates valuation account. You’ll need to sign in to use the service. If you do not already have sign in details, you’ll be able to create them.

Types of accounts

You can set up either:

  • an individual account — for sole traders and self-employed people
  • an organisation account — for accounts that need to be managed by more than one person

If you want to add co-workers, family or friends to manage your business rates, ask them to create individual accounts. You must be an account administrator to add new accounts to the organisation account. You will be an administrator if you created the account or if an existing administrator added you as one.

If you are appointing an agent, ask for their agent code to add them. Do not let an agent create an account for you.

After you have signed in

You do not need to submit any business details when you register. You will be asked for them when you add a property to your account.

If you have trouble registering

If you have trouble registering for the service, you should contact the Valuation Office.

The Valuation Office can give you extra support if you have a health condition or personal circumstance that makes using our online service difficult.

If you still cannot set up an account after contacting the Valuation Office for support, you can appoint a trusted helper to do it for you.
