Ozone-depleting substances (ODS)

Groups of ODS with their ozone-depleting potential.

If you work with ODS there are rules you must follow.

You must:

  • hold a licence to import or export ODS
  • have a quota to import or produce ODS
  • record and report ODS that you import, export, sell or destroy
  • be qualified to service equipment containing ODS
  • use a qualified technician to check for ODS leaks in equipment you own
  • register if you need to use ODS for laboratory or analytical purposes

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are a type of ODS.

The ozone-depleting potential values are estimates and are reviewed regularly.
