You will need your Government Gateway user ID in order to use certain Ofsted services.

Applies to England

Look through your emails

Your Government Gateway user ID will have been sent to the email address you used to set up your account.

You should search in your emails to try and find the email with your user ID.

Recover your user ID

You must have already set up multi-factor authentication to recover your user ID.

If you have multi-factor authentication set up

You will need:

  • access to the email address you used to set up your Government Gateway account
  • your Government Gateway account password
  • access to the device you set up multi-factor authentication on, such as your smart phone - you will receive a code through it

You will need to follow these steps:

  1. When you are asked to sign in to Government Gateway, scroll down and select ‘I have forgotten my Government Gateway user ID’.
  2. Enter the email address associated with your Government Gateway user ID.
  3. A code will be emailed to you which you will need to enter next.
  4. Enter your Government Gateway account password.
  5. Enter the code sent to the device you set up multi-factor authentication on.
  6. Your Government Gateway user ID will be displayed.

If you do not have multi-factor authentication set up

If you cannot find your Government Gateway user ID in your emails, you will need to create a new Government Gateway account.

You can use the same email address for this as before.
