COVID-19 has had environmental, economic, and societal impacts across the world. The COVID-19 Rapid Response Round:

  • responds to the immediate impact of COVID-19 on the priorities of the Darwin Initiative, Darwin Plus and the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund (IWTCF)
  • supports the early stages of recovery from the pandemic

How to apply

You will need to apply online for the COVID-19 Rapid Response Round through the Flexigrant application portal.

Once you’ve read the guidance, complete the COVID-19 Rapid Response Round application form on the Flexigrant application portal.

For drafting purposes, you may find the COVID-19 Rapid Response application form (MS Word Document, 165 KB) useful.

When to apply

The timetable for the Rapid Response Round is:

  • deadline for applications (via Flexigrant application portal only): 2359 GMT on Monday 2 November 2020
  • acknowledgement: by midday on Thursday 5 November 2020
  • results: expected by early December 2020

Who can apply

The lead organisation must be a current or recent (within the previous 12 months) recipient lead organisation of main project funding for:

  • Darwin
  • Darwin Plus
  • IWTCF

Each lead organisation can apply for a maximum of 2 projects.

Projects must directly address the impact of COVID-19 on biodiversity or the illegal wildlife trade. If you’re applying under the Darwin Initiative or IWTCF, projects must also address the impact of COVID-19 on sustainable livelihoods.

Projects must not begin before 1 January 2021 or end after 31 March 2021.

Level of funding

Project budgets should be between £15,000 and £60,000.
