Guidance

Contact the FCDO

How to get in contact if the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is the relevant government department for your enquiry.

We read and carefully consider all correspondence, but we can only respond to enquiries directly related to what the FCDO does.  For all other queries, contact the relevant department, agency or public body.

Enquiries we do not respond to

The FCDO does not respond to or forward UK visa or passport enquiries.

We do not reply to messages that:

  • are for information only, or suggestions or comments without a policy question
  • are selling or promoting a product
  • have already been answered in a previous reply to you
  • are written in a foreign language
  • contain offensive or abusive language or material

British people abroad

If your enquiry is about support for British nationals travelling or living abroad, you must use our consular contact form.  You can also view our travel advice.

You can apply for an emergency travel document if you need to travel urgently and cannot use your passport because it is lost, stolen or damaged.

Contact us for help if you:

  • are a British national involved in a serious incident or accident, or are a victim of crime whilst abroad
  • are concerned about a British national involved in an incident, accident or victim of crime abroad
  • have an enquiry about the support we offer to British nationals abroad

If you need to contact us urgently or in an emergency, it’s best to call us on 020 7008 5000.
