Subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service

How to subscribe or check if you have access to the Customs Declaration Service.

Subscribing your registration details to the Customs Declaration Service will allow you to do things such as:

  • submit import and export declarations using software
  • get your postponed import VAT statements or get your import VAT certificates so you can complete your VAT Return
  • pay Customs Duty and import VAT

You do not need to subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service again if you have already done so for either imports or exports.

How to subscribe

You’ll need the sign in details that you used for:

  • your business or organisation
  • yourself, if you’re applying as an individual

If you do not already have sign in details, you’ll be able to create them.

You cannot use an agent Government Gateway user ID.

If you’re established in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) or Northern Ireland, you’ll need to tell us:

  • your EORI number that starts with GB or XI — if you do not have one you can apply for an EORI number when you subscribe — you’ll need to meet the eligibility criteria to register for an XI number
  • your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) — find your UTR if you do not know it
  • the address for your business that we hold on our customs records
  • your National Insurance number (if you’re an individual or sole trader)
  • the date you started your business

Your EORI number and Customs Declaration Service accounts will be linked to your sign in details. You cannot apply for more than one EORI number using your registration.

If you’re subscribing with an EORI number from an EU country

You`ll need to tell us your EORI number from an EU country, the start date and your name and address.

You’ll need a separate user ID if you want to use an EORI number from an EU country. You cannot link this number to the same Government Gateway user ID as your EORI number starting with GB.

After you’ve subscribed

You’ll get access within either:

  • 2 hours

You’ll then be able to sign in with your Government Gateway user ID and password to use any of the following services in the Customs Declaration Service:

Add a team member

If you need others in your business to use your subscription (and the services it gives access to) you can add a team member when using your business tax account.

You’ll be able to control what each team member can access.

Changing your address if you’ve subscribed with an EORI number from an EU country

If you have subscribed to the Customs Declaration Service with an EORI number from an EU country and your correspondence address has changed, you’ll need to update the correspondence address for your Customs Declaration Service subscription.
