Access journals and articles: UKHSA Knowledge and Library Services

Knowledge and Library Services (KLS) provide eligible staff with access to the evidence base for public health and related disciplines.

Accessing journals in our collection

Your starting point to access journals and other resources is MyAthens.

UKHSA staff can log in using Single Sign-On (SSO). For other staff, visit the guide page for your organisation for more details:

You can then use BrowZine to browse journals or Discovery search to look for a specific article.

Browsing journals using BrowZine

BrowZine is a website and mobile app that allows you to access and browse e-journals from different publishers in one interface on any device.

Use BrowZine to:

  • read scholarly journals
  • create a bookshelf of your favourite journals
  • get alerts when new issues of journals become available
  • bookmark articles for future reference

Search BrowZine by journal name, subject or by International Standard Serial Number (ISSN). Use Discovery search to look up a specific journal article.

To use BrowZine on your mobile device, install it from the BrowZine app download page. Select the organisation you belong to:

  • UK Health Security Agency
  • OHID
  • NHS England
  • Public Health or Public Health Staff in England (for local authority staff)

Use the appropriate Discovery Search link to look for a specific article. Access full-text articles via the Get PDF, Linked Full Text, or Access Item links. We recommend searching by article title or digital object identifier (DOI).

Request items from Discovery Search that are not immediately available using the Request Full Text link. Complete your details on the form before submitting it. In some cases, we may require you to complete a copyright declaration before supplying the article. This service operates under the NHS Copyright Licence and the Copyright Act 1988.

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser plugin that will connect you to full text available from the library when you start your research. It appears on websites including PubMed, publisher sites, Wikipedia and Google Scholar. For more information, visit the LibKey Nomad user guide.

You can install it on a personal computer via the LibKey Nomad website. After installation, select the organisation you belong to:

  • UK Health Security Agency
  • OHID
  • NHS England
  • Public Health or Public Health Staff in England (for local authority staff)

You may need to follow alternative steps to install LibKey Nomad on a work computer. For example, for UKHSA computers you must request LibKey Nomad from the self-service software catalogue on the IT helpdesk. It will become available to install in your Company Portal and can only be installed on Edge.
