Identification requirements

Updated 8 June 2026

General identification document rules

Documents must contain a photograph that is a true likeness of the candidate.

You must bring your identification document with you on the test day to confirm your identity. It must be the same document you used to register and book the test. Your document must be the original version – we do not accept copies or screenshots.

The details used to book your test must be as stated on the document provided.

Examples of acceptable documents

European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland Identity Card

This must be in date.

Passport

Documents must be original and still valid.

Photocopies or expired (out of date) documents will not be accepted.

Travel document

This must be in date.

Emergency travel documents will not be accepted.

eVisa

If you have an eVisa, you should get a share code as evidence of your identity to take the test. You’ll need to sign in to your UKVI account and get a share code by selecting ‘to prove your immigration status for anything else’.

If you are unable to access your eVisa, you may be able to use an expired biometric residence permit (BRP) or an expired biometric residence card (BRC). You must take your test no later than 24 months after the expiry date shown on the card, or until 31 December 2026, whichever is sooner.

You must bring the original card with you on the day of the test. You do not need to show a physical document if your identity can be checked using your eVisa.
