The national curriculum statutory programmes of study for science to be taught in England until July 2015.

These are the statutory programmes of study and attainment targets for science at key stage 1 and 2.

They must be taught to certain year groups in all maintained schools in England until July 2015.

In the 2013 to 2014 academic year:

  • pupils in years 1, 2, 5 and 6 will study these programmes of study for science
  • pupils in years 2 and 6 will take the current key stage 1 and 2 tests respectively
  • schools must teach science to pupils in years 3 and 4 but are free to choose which programmes of study to use

In the 2014 to 2015 academic year:

From September 2015 all pupils will study the new national curriculum science programmes of study.

New key stage 1 and 2 tests will be introduced in July 2016.
