The Department for Education is updating the school food standards. The updated standards are expected to come into force in September 2027, subject to parliamentary approval.
To help caterers understand and apply the changes, the Department of Health and Social Care has developed illustrative 3-week menus for primary and secondary schools. The nutrient analysis shows how these menus meet nutritional guidelines.
This guidance is for school caterers, headteachers and governors involved in planning school lunches.
