Details

This risk assessment provides a qualitative assessment of the risk of sheep and goats in Great Britain becoming infected with sheep pox and goat pox (SPGP) through legal and illegal trade as well as personal movements from EU and EFTA member states.

The annual likelihood of SPGP being introduced into Great Britain through all pathways ranged from medium (event occurs regularly) to very low (very rare but cannot be excluded) with high uncertainty.

The annual likelihood of exposure was considered high (event occurs very often) with medium uncertainty.

The potential consequences of a SPGP incursion, mainly given the potential economic and welfare impacts on Great Britain’s commercial lamb industry, were considered major with medium uncertainty.
