The system builds on the experience gained in using the individual models incorporated into the system, in assessments of landfill sites in the UK. The component models of the system simulate the key processes in the various media responsible for the transport of radioactivity from a landfill site to the biosphere and the subsequent doses to humans.
This report describes each of the component models of the landfill modelling system (LMS) and their verification and validation, discusses their operation together as an integrated system and outlines various options for further developing and improving the system.
