The commission considered an application by Hitchin Bridge Club for registration as a charity. It concluded that the organisation is established for exclusively charitable purposes to advance amateur sport and so could be registered as a charity.
This decision is significant because it considered how a game can promote health through mental exertion, in an analogy with amateur sport which can promote health through physical exertion.
